Want to train to teach Citizenship?
Deciding to train to become a teacher is a big step. We're here to help you. Find out more about what Citizenship is by browsing our website. To find out about the various routes into teaching see our Training Pages in the links section.
Your first port of call will probably be the Teacher Development Agency or at Types of teacher training course All the relevent information will be found there. The main routes into Citizenship teaching are though PGCE, through SCITT or via Graduate Teaching Schemes. Details of all of these routes can be found via the TDA website. However, the best route is via a Citizenship education PGCE course.

CitizEd
There are a number of places you can go for further support in your PGCE year in addition to your tutor and the school you're placed in.
CitizEd offer an excellent website with information on Primary, Secondary, Post-16 and Community education for citizenship.
They host conferences, seminars, workshops, research papers and practical resources for teaching citizenship.
Among their aims and objectives CitizEd list:
- Improving the content and dissemination of materials for citizenship ITT;
- Strengthening ITT provision by providing student teachers with additional opportunities to improve their citizenship subject knowledge during and after the course (NQT year);
- Providing resources that assist in training that go beyond presenting the knowledge content of citizenship by supporting active teaching and learning styles;
- To provide a major web site for teacher educators in Higher Education (HE) and schools together with student teachers in citizenship education;
