ACT's Campaign Toolkit is a 15-page booklet which shows you how to help young people campaign for something they believe in. You can guide them through creating a whole class, whole school or individual campaign by following the four steps outlined.
This Campaign Toolkit was the handout at ACT's Annual Citizenship Teachers' event on 9th June 2009.
Below is further information and feedback from this event, including links to the young presenters' campaigns.
ACT is extremely grateful to the British Library and its Education and Learning team for hosting the event. Their role in the preparations and delivery of the event was invaluable.
ACT's Theme of the Month in July 2009 takes you through the basics and the nuts and bolts of BLOGGING, WIKIS, SOCIAL NETWORKING and using MOBILE PHONES and DIGITAL CAMERAS in class.
Three young people gave passionate presentations at the ACT conference about campaigns they are involved in. The young people showed their enthusiasm for their cause and demonstrated how their campaigns have had an impact on society.
Sayed arrived in the UK from Afghanistan when he was 12 years old. He had spent 3 1/2 months travelling overland as a refugee. He spent 5 hours clinging to the bottom of a train to get to the UK, he then hid in a lorry. This is his story told by him. He was inspired to make this film after learning about the abolition of the slave trade at school. His school, Endeavour High School in Hull, was participating in the British Library's Campaign! Make an Impact. Programme.

"Over a 1.7 million free newspapers are distributed in London every day. That's a lot of paper to supply the capital's demand for free news. I want the publishers and the public to be aware of the environmental impact of free newspapers and our collective responsibility to sustain our environment. The time is now to stop talking and start acting on issues that are affecting our environment." - James Mummery

"Friends and family members have died because of gun and knife crime. I want young people to STOP carrying weapons and think about what else is out there, apart from joining a gang. I’m using what I know best – design - to fight the negative gangster image and I want to inspire others to do something positive too. Everyone can use what they have to do something." - Alex Rose

If you attended the ACT national conference on 9th June 2009 you produced a campaigning blog, complete with pictures, film, e-petitions etc about Citizenship. These blogs were THROWN together under strict time constrictions by novices using the software for the first time. They are all works in progress, but if you want to see them:
